La microbiota realiza diversas funciones en el organismo y sus alteraciones pueden afectar a nuestra salud. Adem\u00e1s, las bacterias que en \u00e9l se encuentran, la microbiota, es capaz de sintetizar neurotransmisores como la serotonina o la dopamina.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por ambos motivos, se conoce que existe el eje microbiota-intestino-cerebro, el cual est\u00e1 compuesto por los siguientes sistemas y estructuras:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Microbiota intestinal.<\/li><li>Nervio vago.<\/li><li>Sistema nervioso ent\u00e9rico, que se encarga del funcionamiento b\u00e1sico gastrointestinal.<\/li><li>Sistema nervioso aut\u00f3nomo.<\/li><li>Sistema neuroendocrino.<\/li><li>Sistema neuroinmune.<\/li><li>Sistema nervioso central.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Si se da una disbiosis (un cambio en la poblaci\u00f3n de la microbiota intestinal, ya sea por falta de microorganismos beneficiosos como por exceso de pat\u00f3genos), no podr\u00e1 llevar a cabo sus funciones adecuadamente, como la sintetizaci\u00f3n de neurotransmisores.
